Fresh from recording, mixing and mastering Fool No More, Peter jumped right into his next project, a sweetly melancholy and gently swinging group of well-known and not-so well-known standards entitled Stranger In Town. Peter's label, Rosebud Music, originally requested the recordingsongs in the tradition of the Johnny Hartmann/John Coltrane ballad album, as well as the vocal recordings of Chet Baker and Nat King Cole. Peter was more than thrilled to oblige, especially since these men were some of his favorite singers. The CD, produced by Peter and recorded basically 'live' in the studio (17 songs in two days), features such beautiful songs as 'Every Time We Say Goodbye', 'If You Could See Me Now', 'Spring is Here', 'Gentle Rain', and many others. To aid him in bringing these songs to life, Peter gathered some of the world's best jazz musicians. Michael Brecker, Claudio Roditi, Donny McCaslin, Romero Lubambo, Lewis Nash, Andy Ezrin, David Finck, Jean-Baptiste Bocle, John Hebert and of course, Ben Wittman all played with the perfect blend of heart and wisdom. The CD also includes one of Peter's ballads, 'Little Did We Know', graced with a haunting solo by Brecker. This recording was a perfect chance for Peter to pay his respects to some wonderful singers and composers, while at the same time showing a completely different side of his talents. |
